Sp Wont Install

Tuesday 2 January 2007, 18:01

I tried to install SP3 to WLM 8.1 Beta, and installation says successful, but I can't see any SP icons in my contact list nor chat windows?

Why is that?

Please state your OS (Windows version), WLM version (full number: help > about) and SP3 version (note there has just been an update). Also do you have admin priviledges on the account you tried to install on or anything that might prevent installing software?

If you can't find SECUR32.DLL hidden in Messenger folder, then please copy it to your Messenger folder, this might occur when you havn't installed Messenger correctly.

If this problem still occurs, or you have any questions, please ask.

Note: to see this file, you need to enable the "Show Hidden Files" in "Folder Options".

WLM Version: 8.1.0168 BETA
StuffPlug Version: "Happy New Year" Version (Haven't tried the newest one. Ill try when I get home.)
Windows Version: Windows Vista RTM Build: 6000

I am logged in as an Administrator and I have given SP3 permission to Install. (UAC)

I also try this SECUR32.DLL trick, when I get home!

The secur32.dll in the MSN Messenger folder is the dll that loads SP3 along with WLM (without SP3 you won't find that dll in that folder). The secur32.dll you find in the system folder is a different one so copying that dll into the MSN Messenger folder won't help. The only thing that helps if that dll is missing from the MSN Messenger folder is to reinstall SP3.

vlex: yes, please try the new version then report back
If i'm not mistaken (from what i've read about it, i don't have Vista myself) there's several (two) ways to install in adminmode on Vista. One is UAC and the other is by rightclicking the installer then choosing "Run as Administrator". Try the rightclicking if it isn't working through UAC.

Ok Installed latest Beta from Ideas.live.com (8.1.0168.00)
Downloaded latest SP3 (SP3.0.264.BETA), Installed it trough UAC AND "Run as Administrator"

It seems to install correctly, but I can't see the icon and the commands doesn't work (example: !fakeinvite), so it isn't installed.

Here is a Screenshot of my WLM

Here is a Directory listing from MSN Messenger folder, if that helps at all! (There is Secur32.dll)

Yeah, that's fine.
Sunshine: I meant the Secur32.dll included in Stuffplug.

Can you find the Stuffplug.dll in your stuffplug folder?

Wich is only created in the MSN Messenger folder on install of SP3, that exact same dll isn't anywhere else on your computer so you can't copy it from anywhere.

Yes, that's true. But since it's already in the Messenger folder (I've checked exact size, hopes that's enough).
The DLL doesn't seem to find Stuffplug3.dll

I'm just curius, but does SP3 patch those Messenger files in RAM?
I believe that this is blocked at processor stage in 64-Bit environment. This is developed against malicious software.

It does patch it in the RAM. It's called a soft patch. Isn't there a way to overcome that in 64-bit? I heard Microsoft implimented this for Anti-Viruses?

I have a 64-bit CPU (Intel Pentium D 805), am running WinXP Pro x64 and have enabled Data Execution Prevention on all programs, yet have no problems with StuffPlug 3, installing or otherwise (well, I get the parse errors, but meh).

I don't think it's related to 64-bit CPUs in general.

Alright, I don't officially support vista *yet*, but you can try this:
- Make sure Secur32.dll is really the iAvatars.com Cooperative Loader, right-click, properties, version info.
- Regedit HK_Local_Machine\Software\iAvatars.com\CooperativeLoader\ check if there's a key pointing to the stuffplug dll (if not, create it, name doesn't matter, value should be the path to thestuffplug dll)
That's all you can really do on your own, I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy of Vista soonish, and test myself smile.gif

Actually there is, but the Key path is different:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\iAvatars.com\CooperativeLoader

Keyname: StuffPlug 3 Value: C:\Program Files (x86)\StuffPlug3\StuffPlug3.dll

Is this the right path? I assume it is, because it is 32bit application?
