More progress

Saturday 2 December 2006, 01:11

So here I am, still awake at 01:51 AM. This can mean only one thing... well... two actually, either I'm insomniac, or I've started working more actively on StuffPlug again.
I can't tell you which one of those two it is, as I'm not quite sure myself, but I can tell you I just did a little update to the site smile.gif
Initially I set off to fix the chatbox, but because of some technical stuff (compilers being b0rked) I couldn't fix that without relying on the hosting company, so I figured I'd go fix the download page. It's nothing new really, because it still links to the latest StuffPlug 2, but now at least you get fancy colors and a download counter biggrin.gif
As for StuffPlug 3, it still isn't ready for release yet, but at least we did get it to be WLM 8.1 compatible, which was broken before. But now I finally have proper internet and all that (even a shiny new laptop), so I hope I can get StuffPlug 3 ready for release very soon smile.gif

Anyway, sorry to keep you all waiting so long, but I promise you it'll be worth the wait wink.gif

Bye,
TB

EDIT:
OLD vs NEW
Spot the differences!

And tbh, I don't find any differences between the new and the old. It's just a change in text, that's all.

Hello

I was wondering about if there was a option in stuffplug 3 that you could see when someone opened a conversation with you ive heard about it and it looks nice smile.gif

Comment by Kangie

Sunday 10 December 2006, 22:00

No, that feature was removed from Stuffplug as it was very unreliable smile.gif

"The Window Opened Notifier will not return due to the way MSN7.x (which is used by all pre-XP users) requests display pictures. The notifier used to work by detecting when your display pic was requested, which only happened when a convo window was opened.

MSN7.x (and Windows Live Messenger) now use contact cards/display pics in the contacts window/display pics in the sign-in popup, so now when ANY of those happen, it would make the notifier popup (even if someone just opened your contact card) which makes it highly inaccurate and therefore pretty useless."

Sounds all good to me, i've been following the development of SP3 since it was first announced and I'm glad to see light at the end of the tunnel, I think i speak for everyone when i say this.

Monday 11 December 2006, 05:05

Mmmmmmmm I don't totally agree with that, the light isn't THAT bright...I mean, there is no set date for release yet, so for all you know that light is some sort of mirage, if you know what I mean.

The light is there wink.gif. It would be bad I think if TB set a release date. But we're getting there smile.gif.

Regarding the light at the end of the tunnel, i didn't state how bright the light was, but there is a light, so show a bit of optimism! I personally think we havn't got terribly long to wait now when i look at TB's post, anyway *fingers crossies*!

Like Omak, I would like to see Opened Conversation notifier too. It's a damn good way to understand if some one is blocked me or stays offline.

I wish you best in your efforts smile.gif

Comment by Annuix

Sunday 24 December 2006, 00:56

many people want to see the opened convo notifier open too, but it is a fact that it will no longer be implemented into SP because of its crap reliability.

Comment by Last Sipahi

Sunday 24 December 2006, 01:02

I guess the unreliable part makes it usefull for me:). When notifier comes, even false, I know that that person is online. And if I didn't change my display picture for a long time. Notifier works very stable and nice.

But maybe live is using different way to request picture info. I don't exactly know how it works.

Well I have to comment on this subject. I don't seem to have any of them problems with mine but then again I am runing messanger 7.0 and stuffplug 2.2.397 . Ya.. I relize it is a older versions but I have been hanging on to it just cause I like to see when folks leave the conversation or are about to open up one with me. I found it really comes in handy and ya.. I am having a hard time giving it up. But I must say the new features look really cool and it is tempting to download the new msn and the latest stuffplug I must confess. Great program! Even this old version wink.gif

StuffPlug is taking way too long to release.

The last version has been released more than a month ago.

Comment by Aardvark

Friday 4 May 2007, 23:27

I just got a sense of deja vu, I swear someone had said it was taking ages to release before. How long does it take for each version of MsgPlus to be released? Each version of Windows, each new model of car, your school reports (if you go to school) to be written published and sent out. These things take time! And until they are done we just need to be patient. The current version is more than adequate, with tonnes of new features to keep us running until the cows come home.

And as they say, you may really really want something, but when you get it, it's not that big a deal.

EDIT: What's more we've been given a Development Blog!! So now we actually know what is being worked on then and there. Which gives us even more of an insight into how long particular features that are being worked on may take. You don't get a day to day update on any of the things I listed above, do you. (Unless you're actually a person working on making those things but that's completely irrelevant and beside the point).

You have quoted a 5 months old post, lol.

Anyways, I'm waiting for the newest StuffPlug 3 and actually I check on the site every day as well, to know whether there is already a new version or not. It would be a good thing to at least see an Alpha Version or something, that is yet incomplete... It would still be better than nothing. smile.gif Like an RC version.

The saying, "Be happy with what you already have." comes into play in this situation..
~1. The probable reasons for a lack of an updated 'Beta', is most likely due to the fact that it is currently not stable enough to be distributed or,
~2. TheSteve, TheBlasphemer and J-Thread are working on some more features to be implemented.
Which ever way you look at it you have the best of both worlds at this current point in time.

(Releasing a faulty product will only cause a backlash on the SP3 Forums, with posts of complaints and bugs)
